On Holiday 12/23/21

 I've been nose deep in books lately. 

In the hopes that I have more time to read books,  I ordered three more in the series I just read. 
Here is the first book: Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger. 



Looking forward to Curtsies & Conspiracies, Manners & Mutiny, and Waistcoats & Weaponry. 
I'm sure some of you have read them already. No Spoilers!

I brought my head up long enough to see the cookie supply was getting low, so I grabbed some rice krispies and made one of my favorites from my Mother in Law's recipes - Date Skillet Krispie cookies. 


This is one of those recipes that come out hot and you have to roll them or manipulate them while hot or they dont work. So you hear a lot of "ooh! Tsss Hot! Ah!" while making them. Cant exactly surprise someone with them haha. 

On the hydroponic gardening front, the lettuce wilted and died, not sure why. Too much fertilizer/nutrients I guess?
But the basil has begun to germinate, so I'm hopeful that that works out. I was able to harvest some sage, rosemary, and parsley from the garden (I know, in December!) but the oregano i pulled out by the root dried up even though I put it in water. (shrugs)
I added some thyme to the mix from Imperfect foods order so I  have some semblance of a fresh garden of herbs, if only for about a week. 

Time will tell if the single potato stalk lives. So far its weak but it's still there.

Before breakfast, I punched down the sourdough that was now more than doubled. Then I pushed it into a wide flat shape and rolled it up, tucking it into a loaf pan. I let it sit until after the lunch time baking was done. For lunch we made khachapuri. This was my friend's recipe I mentioned earlier. Since my stand mixer was in the dishwasher I used the breadmaker to mix the dough. When it was ready I asked if the kids wanted one of the dough balls to make their own. Here is what each of us did. A new way of eating - week 1, part 1

Well I got the news yesterday from the Nutritionist.  I'm a bit shocked to be honest. While I'm healthier than I thought, I'm also in need of some changes. And for the next 90 days those changes don't include red meat. While Hubby has another set of rules meaning he gets not only beef but lamb. He has other challenges with his diet, though, that I would not want. We are doing this together, however, we have two different paths to follow. Another shock? I shouldn't be trying to get to my high school weight. I should actually be 10 lbs heavier than that. How about that. Hmm. So anyway, making and eating dinner has it challenges.  I'm picking my way through to figure out how to do it. My go-to cooking method is frying in butter and oil. Hubby can't have any fat added, so I'm having to figure out how to cook without it. Yesterday we had chicken, so I added some Pampered Chef Parmesan garlic spice mix and braising it in water. Writing a cookbook and Coffee Cake

I'm starting another project. I know what you're going to say, she never finishes any of these! Yeah, you are right about that. Except for sometimes, when things really seem to pan out, I end up finishing them. I can't explain why some things do and some don't. My brain is always full of ideas, and usually a new one seems better than the one I'm bogged down in, so I switch to the better idea. Maybe i'm just fickle? What makes the cookbook project special you might ask? Besides the fact that considering how to write a cookbook is overwhelmingly huge, given all the ideas I have around it, one of the appeals is that i have to try out and perfect every recipe. There are 120 of them just for dinners. I have a feeling that's going to take a while. And I get to try them all. That sounds exciting and sort of science-projecty. What makes me think I won't wander off to something else? Food is all encompassing in my life. I always come back around to it.  If
