Apple Butter Snickerdoodles from Saved Recipes - Sept 17, 2022

Baking Day!

 I've been thinking of actually trying the saved recipes from my Facebook page and blogging them here. 

I think it would be an interesting experiment to see if things turn out as well as they look. Maybe I'll tackle some Pinterest recipes too - if I can figure out how to actually get to their recipes...I swear it just takes you down a rabbit hole with some of them!

A few days ago I ran across a Apple Butter Snickerdoodles  recipe. It's a completely FALL thing to make and I'm looking forward to eating it!

The recipe is soft so it requires you chill before baking, which is a pain because my fridge is pretty stocked on Saturdays, but I made some room. The dough tastes tangy and a bit cinnamony which is really wonderful. I hope the cookie is just as good baked. 

I'm watching the Witcher while I make them, wondering to myself if the monsters they have in this show are made up for the show or if Im just not well versed in monsters?

Anyway, the first batch came out of the oven after 15 mins, just perfect. They are a soft fluffy cookie with the sugar crunch outside and soft moist cookie inside, yet airy. Definitely a keeper.

Before breakfast, I punched down the sourdough that was now more than doubled. Then I pushed it into a wide flat shape and rolled it up, tucking it into a loaf pan. I let it sit until after the lunch time baking was done. For lunch we made khachapuri. This was my friend's recipe I mentioned earlier. Since my stand mixer was in the dishwasher I used the breadmaker to mix the dough. When it was ready I asked if the kids wanted one of the dough balls to make their own. Here is what each of us did. Son made cheeseless pizza (upper left) I made cheese with butter and green onions (bottom right) This one will get the egg The one on the left is cheese and butter only The one on the right is cheese and brown sugar (it kept unfolding!) COVID-19 Virus, Day 138

I haven't had much to say lately.  I'm diving deep into why I eat more than I should. I'm taking this online course through Daily OM to learn how to communicate better. You know, once I have something to say.  I bought a shirt that says "Warning Starving Dieter May Bite If Provoked".  I'm taking my martial arts classes, getting into the groove of that.  This week I made tacos.  This is how I do it.  From the top: Paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, onion powder, cumin, and salt on a pound of hamburger.  Chop and cook. Serve with tortillas, tortilla chips, tomatoes, sour cream, cheddar cheese, and lettuce. Sometimes guacamole.  But you gotta get the restaurant style white tortilla chips. Heaven! Today I made chicken and dumplings by request.  First you par cook the chicken.  Which just means cook it til brown on the outside in butter in a pot.  Then I took these out and added chopped onion, celery (out of my garden!) and carrot.  This is mire poix.  Add the c

Writing a cookbook and Coffee Cake

I'm starting another project. I know what you're going to say, she never finishes any of these! Yeah, you are right about that. Except for sometimes, when things really seem to pan out, I end up finishing them. I can't explain why some things do and some don't. My brain is always full of ideas, and usually a new one seems better than the one I'm bogged down in, so I switch to the better idea. Maybe i'm just fickle? What makes the cookbook project special you might ask? Besides the fact that considering how to write a cookbook is overwhelmingly huge, given all the ideas I have around it, one of the appeals is that i have to try out and perfect every recipe. There are 120 of them just for dinners. I have a feeling that's going to take a while. And I get to try them all. That sounds exciting and sort of science-projecty. What makes me think I won't wander off to something else? Food is all encompassing in my life. I always come back around to it.  If
